Twin Oaks first opened in 1933 as a speakeasy during prohibition. The restaurant was named for the large oak trees that shade the grounds. William DeAngelus Sr., the original founder, welcomed the public to a small eatery with two private dining rooms (only holding 16 people total) and a larger main dining room that could sit up to 40 people. DeAngelus and his wife, Eva, ran the entire operation. While Eva prepared all of the foods, William cooked it. Twin Oaks grew very quickly, making a name for itself due to the amazing food and the very affordable prices. William Sr. passed away in 1979, and the organization was taken over by his son, Bill Jr..
A blazing fire destroyed the entire restaurant in February of 1980. During the time of construction for the new Twin Oaks building, Bill Jr. and the rest of the Twin Oaks staff were able to make their food and continue their business out of Gregory’s restaurant in Cranston. Twin Oaks loyal customers were very pleased that they didn’t have to go on without the tremendous Italian cooking for a long period of time. The present Twin Oaks building was constructed in October of 1981 and can be found on 100 Sabra Street in Cranston. Twin Oaks now has over 650 seats and 180 employees.
